Red Roots

Backstory

I designed a vinyl collateral kit for a festival competition at UCDavis, as apart of a sprint event for the PIXEL graphic design club on campus; of which I was a member from 2019 – 2021.

Each student had to create branded collateral, and present it to peers and faculty at the end of the quarter.

Outcome

I created a vinyl design for the festival prompt (Russian rock & psychedelic rock) based on the history of rock music in Eastern Europe. Most American rock music is banned in Russia, and because of this, Russian rock fans would often inscribe music into discarded x-rays, and smuggle them through the country.

It became so commonplace to do so, that Vinyls made of discarded X-rays were aptly nicknamed “Ribs”.

I ran with this, and reproduced a vinyl with a ribs motif. On the outer cover, I utilized a “melting” pattern I created in illustrator. I went with the name “Red Roots” for my vinyl album; which serves to evoke thoughts of both Russian heritage (red) and psychedelic funk (mushroom roots). Conceptually, this vinyl was presented as a merch idea for the festival that would contain live recordings of the various artists who played that year.

Clarifi @ Sonoma Raceway

Backstory

I was asked to create company swag for tabling events for Clarifi Technologies. Their work revolves around making healthcare clear to everyday folk using AI. I wanted to push themes of trust, honesty, and transparency- at every step of the way.

Outcome

I decided to create physical business cards that offered insight to something all motorcyclists know about: burns. I asked Claire, their A.I., real questions everyday folk have about different degrees of burns, as data shows most motorcyclists have experienced, or know someone who has experienced, a burn in relation to riding.

Alongside the business cards, i created some free swag for the company to create and pass around while tabling. I made sure all assets and produced goods maintained brand standards and were produced to proper specifications.
